Costello Sings Lowe/Nick Sings Elvis- San Francisco, October 1, 2010: 16 Years Of Trouble!

 

I have Elvis on my mind! No, not that ancient rocker who had a recent bio-pic about his life in theaters, the Elvis who's married to Canada's, Diana Krall! I saw (via social media), a friend of mine, Hugh, saw Elvis Costello at Massey Hall in Toronto last night. On my daily dose of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die Generator , my featured album today is Elvis Costello's 1994 album, Brutal Youth, with Nick Lowe playing bass on the record. By coincidence, Nick Lowe was the support act (opener) for Costello last night. To add to the coincidences, yesterday (before I realized Costello was performing last night) I listened to a live recording from 2010 that featured Elvis and Nick sharing a co-billing show performing each other's songs. It was a benefit in San Francisco that was recorded, but never officially released and it was available from Dime about a month ago. It's an outstanding show with both Elvis and Nick trading off songs and singing together on a handful of songs. It's a joy to hear them each perform unique versions of the songs that might be arranged different and sound almost like a different song, but they add their own style to each song. A truly unique concert and at the time it was a one-off concept for that night (for both the early & late shows). The sound quality is excellent and the setlist is amazing! Get this while you can!

So sorry for the recent lack of posts. After coming back from vacation, I feel refreshed and energized and looking forward to more postings. Hey, believe it or not, Teenage Dogs In Trouble just celebrated (Aug. 3rd) it's 16th anniversary and I hope to run this into the ground a bit longer. Seriously, I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to read the blog and feel free to continue to download as much content as possible. I realize a lot of older links haven't been working, so keep sending me your requests to re-post. Some items and files I might not have access to anymore, but I will try to dig and get as I can back up.

Happy Belated 15th Anniversary TDIT!- Young Fresh Fellows Live 2001

Yes! The Young Fresh Fellows are well and very much alive, as this past year they've been quite active. About a week ago, the Fellows wrapped up a mini-opening tour with pals, Wilco with a handful of live shows in the Pacific Northwest. This summer the Fellows celebrated the 20th anniversary of Because We Hate You with a it's first release on vinyl (with a bonus disc of unreleased outtakes, For Those Naseous Times) and late last year on Record Store Day they released, Toxic Youth. This resurgence of YFF activity has me optimistic I might have an opportunity to see the band live hopefully in the near future. I've seen a few live videos of the band opening for Wilco on YouTube, but if anyone has any live audio recordings of any of the shows, please let me know, would love to share here!

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, been busy, but I'll make time for much more posts! I almost forgot to mention that this blog has been on the world-wide web for 15 years now, which is hard to believe sometimes. Thanks so much for your support all these years and I still get joy writing about and listening to live music. I haven't seen a live concert since the pandemic began, but soon the US/Canada borders will open up, so that's promising!

 

I thought it would be appropriate to post a Young Fresh Fellows show from their 2001 tour in support of Because We Hate You. It's a great sounding show with the Fellows set sandwiched between the Minus 5 and headliners, the Fastbacks. (I think I have the Minus 5 set from the same night, if so, I'll post it) I don't think the Fellows have toured the States as extensively since this tour, which took them to the East coast as well, with many of those dates opening for the Soft Boys.

Green On Red- Spin Radio Concert 1985

Continuing on my stroll through the 80's, here's a rare radio promotional issue of Spin Radio's live concert series featuring, Green On Red. If you can your mitts on the original double vinyl, it's worth a pretty penny. Nice sounding radio broadcast quality with a live concert recording from the I-Beam in San Francisco along with interview segments with Dan Stuart from Green On Red. This is the band circa, Gas Food Lodging/No Free Lunch (my favourite G on R era!) when Chuck Prophet joined the band. Complete with commercials, this is pretty cool, get this!

Fastbacks- San Francisco 2011

Here's a show that I thought would be appropriate to post this week. It took place in San Francisco just over a year ago, another rare reunion show for The Fastbacks since they disbanded in 2002 when they played their last show at (the same venue) The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco. On Sunday (28th), the city of San Fran celebrated the Giants who won the World Series. As well, fellow blog(ger) (from my corner of the world), Music Ruined My Life has been posting some live and studio Fastbacks this past week (and earlier). A reader from this blog commented they had attended this show, so in case they or anyone hasn't heard it yet, here's the recording that someone upped to Dime last year.

It's a nice sounding show, the band still sounds pretty good and gives me hope that I might be able to see them live in the future. Kurt's been busy lately with some Fellows gigs as well as in Peter Buck's new band, Richard M. Nixon. Thanks to whoever recorded and originally posted this show (let me know so I can give due credit) on Dime.
